Research institutes

Researchers in our institutes and centres collaborate with industry and community partners to advance specialised fields of knowledge. Their research benefits local and global industry and communities as well as VU’s teaching and learning activities.

All of our research activities are aligned with two interdisciplinary flagship research themes, delivered through six research focus areas.

VU's flagship research institutes are:

  • Institute for Health and Sport
  • Institute for Sustainable Industries and Liveable Cities.

Institute for Health and Sport undertakes research in sport, health and active living. It incorporates and builds upon some of the research undertaken at VU prior to 2018 by ISEAL (Institute for Sport, Exercise and Active Living) and Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention and Management (CCD).
