Victoria University is regulated by the Victoria University Act 2010 which confers powers upon its peak governing bodies to administer the business, performance and strategy of the University.

The University is governed by:

  • Council: the formally constituted governing body that oversees and is accountable for all of the University's operations.
  • Vice-Chancellor: the Principal Academic Officer and CEO, and manages the day-to-day business of the University.
  • Academic Board: the body established to assure the quality of the University's teaching, learning and research.

University Governance sits in the Office of the Vice Chancellor.

Governance & Secretariat Unit

The Governance and Secretariat Unit is responsible for managing many of the governance functions of the University, principally through advice and support of the University's governance bodies.

We are responsible for:

  • supporting the peak University Governance bodies (University Council and Academic Board) and their committee and membership requirements
  • facilitating the Student Appeals Process
  • facilitating the administration of the VC's Awards
  • managing elections for the Council and Academic Board
  • providing advice on governance issues.

Elections

VU Council - Ballot Required for the Staff Elected Position

At the close of the nominations period at 4:00pm AEST, Tuesday 10 June 2022 the number of nominations received for the staff elected position to VU Council exceeded the number of vacancies (one). One staff is to be elected for this 2 year term. The term of office for the position will commence once duly elected and will expire on 31st July 2024.

Consequently, an election is required and will be conducted electronically for the category of staff elected member to VU Council. The election will be conducted from 9.00am AEST, Wednesday 25 May 2022 to 4.00pm AEST, Tuesday 7 June 2022. Staff will receive instructions via email upon the opening of the election period on how to participate in voting.

Eligibility to vote

Voters must be a member of staff of the University who is currently employed at a minimum of 0.5 fraction of full time employment and is based at a Victorian campus of the University. For any questions regarding the elections process please email [email protected].
