To help you work out what ATAR was needed to get into a course you can check the lowest selection rank (marked in bold) in the course ATAR profiles on this page.

Lowest selection rank

The lowest selection rank represents the point (at or above) that everyone who applied for the course was made an offer.

The rank includes the ATAR and any adjustment factors.

If your ATAR is lower than this rank, we recommend you still apply as you might be eligible for adjustment factors.

Adjustment factors

Some of our courses have additional selection considerations which can adjust your selection rank upwards.

Previously referred to as “bonus points”, adjustments don’t change your ATAR, but can change your selection rank for a course.

Common types of adjustment factors are:

• Equity adjustment – based on disadvantage factors.
• Location adjustment – based on where you went to school and where you live.
• Subject adjustment – based on your performance of a secondary school subject.

ATAR (excluding adjustment factors)

The actual ATAR a student received is referred to as the ATAR (excluding adjustment factors).

ATARs are not used as a method of selection on their own, but, along with adjustment factors, they form part of the selection rank which is used to determine your entry to the course.

• Highest ATAR (excluding adjustment factors) to receive an offer. This is the highest ATAR achieved by a successful applicant in the last selection period for the course.
• Median ATAR (excluding adjustment factors) to receive an offer. This is the mid-range ATAR of successful applicants in the last intake for the course. For example, if there are offers made to 11 applicants, the median ATAR is the ATAR associated with the sixth applicant selected.
• Lowest ATAR (excluding adjustment factors) to receive an offer. This is the lowest ATAR achieved by a successful applicant in the last selection period for the course. Note: This is not the minimum selection standard required for this course - that is the Lowest Selection Rank (see below).

Selection rank (ATAR plus any adjustment factors)

The selection rank provides an overview of the ATAR plus adjustment factors of applicants who were offered a place in the course.

A selection rank is course specific.

It is produced as a sum of an applicant’s ATAR (received in 2019, 2018 or 2017) and any upward adjustment factors.

Adjustment factors vary between courses and may include achievement in interviews, folio presentations, auditions, tests, performance in specific Year 12 subjects and/or special consideration.

• Highest Selection Rank. This is the highest selection rank achieved by a successful applicant in the last selection period for the course. The Highest Selection Rank includes the ATAR plus any upward adjustment factors.
• Median Selection Rank. The Median Selection Rank is the middle selection rank. For example, if there are offers made to 11 applicants, the median selection rank will be the selection rank associated with the sixth applicant selected.
• Lowest Selection Rank. This is the lowest selection rank achieved by a successful applicant in the last selection period for the course. The Lowest Selection Rank includes an applicant’s ATAR plus any adjustment factors.
